An Intergroup is a local AA service office, established and supported by AA groups and members, to help carry the AA message within a specific geographic area; it is a partnership of AA groups just as an AA group is a partnership of individuals.
Usually the Intergroup maintains a telephone help-line available to the public; to anyone in the community who may have a problem with alcohol.
The Intergroup service office relies on AA group members to perform Twelfth-Step service.
Service at an Intergroup office usually consists of answering the Intergroup's phones, arranging AA member Twelfth-Step contacts for newcomers, helping callers to get to meetings and/or serving on Public Information or on Hospital and Institutions Committees.
Intergroups usually publish local AA meeting lists and newsletters.
Wiltshire Intergroup includes 54 of the 3,600 or so AA groups spread across the length and breadth of Great Britain. Most of these 54 AA groups are located within the county boundary of Wiltshire but there are also some from Berkshire and Somerset.
